Farewell to Middlesex

On March 15, I left Middlesex, where I had stayed in a renovated room beside two unused train carriages. Seeing those trains reminded me of similar scenes back home, and it felt strangely familiar.
Before leaving, I said goodbye to my host. He had gone out of his way to show me around and help me in countless ways. I was deeply grateful. With that, I packed up and began the journey once more.
A Rainy Road Ahead

As soon as I set off, the rain began to fall. Fortunately, the road was mostly downhill, which made pedaling easier. Even so, the rain and traffic made the day feel uncertain.
But then something remarkable happened. A car pulled over ahead of me, and an older woman stepped out. She handed me a donut with a warm smile. She explained that she had seen me cycling earlier and felt compelled to give me something. She had even gone out of her way to buy the donut just for me.
Moments like this remind me how much kindness exists in the world. Travelers often say they feel the warmth of strangers, but for me, it is not just words—I live it every day. The donut was still warm, and I ate it shortly afterward, feeling renewed strength for the road ahead.
Unexpected Generosity
Later in the day, I stopped at a small rest area. As I was sitting there, a man approached and handed me a bottle of water. It was a simple gesture, but on a rainy day with heavy traffic, it made me feel safe and cared for.
The rain had started the morning with a heavy mood, but the encounters with these kind people transformed the day. What could have been a dreary ride became one filled with gratitude.
Returning to Camping Life

That evening, I decided to camp again. After many nights staying in people’s homes, I felt the pull of camping life returning. Setting up the tent and preparing a simple meal brought back that familiar rhythm.
Dinner was quick and easy—flatbread I had gotten in Middlesex, topped with a tomato-based cream. It wasn’t elaborate, but it was satisfying, and it reminded me how small comforts can mean so much on the road.
As I settled in for the night, I reflected on the day. Rain, kindness, and simple food had come together to create another memorable chapter of my journey.
