An Unexpected Morning

It was my third or fourth day riding along the Great Ocean Road. That morning already felt different. Standing on a cliff, I watched the sea below, when suddenly a group of dolphins appeared, cutting through the water with graceful movements.
Travel has moments like thisālittle miracles that arrive without warning. And somehow, I knew this day would bring something more. My instinct proved right.
As I packed up my tent and strapped my bags onto the bicycle, I heard a dull snap. The bolt that held my rear rack had broken under the weight. My gear shifted dangerously close to the tire. If I kept riding, the wheel could be damagedāor worse, I could crash. A chill ran through me.
Waiting, Watching, and Small Acts of Kindness

But journeys like mine are never just about accidents. They are also about the people who appear to help. I quickly posted for help on social media, and within hours, a message came: āIām on my way.ā
While waiting, I sat quietly with a cup of coffee. A chicken nearby stared at me, as if either worried or amused. I couldnāt tell, but even that moment felt strangely precious.
Then, an Australian man sitting next to me offered me sushi. It was a simple hand roll with avocado, the kind often seen here. The taste was both familiar and new, comforting in an unexpected way.
The Man Who Came to Help

Soon after, another man arrivedāthe one who had responded to my call. He didnāt just fix the problem. He lifted my entire bike into his car and began showing me around.
āSince youāre traveling, you should see these places too,ā he said, taking me to some of the most breathtaking spots along the Great Ocean Road. The cliffs, the endless sea, the rugged coastlineāit felt like stepping into a postcard.
By evening, he even arranged a place for me to stay, covering the cost at a caravan park. And before sunset, he handed me a beer with a grin:
āYouāre Japanese, right? Then you have to drink this.ā
It was an Asahi. A taste from home. I hadnāt had one in so longātoo expensive hereāand for a moment, I felt tears in my eyes.
A Day Etched in Memory
What began with a broken bolt turned into a chain of moments that connected seamlessly. The fallen luggage, the sushi, the drive, the beerāit all wove together into a story of kindness.
This day reminded me that no matter what I lose, or how lost I may feel, someone will appear with an open hand. That quiet certainty settled deeply in my heart, stronger than before.
