The One That Got Away (A Lesson in Connection)

June 7th. The journey continues.
My morning started with a heartfelt goodbye to the incredible family who took me in. But almost as soon as I hit the road, a wave of regret washed over me. Why didn't I ask for their social media or contact info? I expressed my deepest gratitude, but I totally dropped the ball on keeping that connection alive for the future. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but it's a lesson learned: from here on out, I'm holding onto these encounters tightly.
Dancing TikTokers and the Descent

As I made my way down the mountain, I stumbled upon a truly bizarre sight: a group of people in full-body costumes dancing right there on the road. Judging by the crowd of locals eagerly waving at them, they were clearly famous TikTokers or influencers. It was a surreal little distraction as I finally pushed past the endless downhill stretches and arrived in the town of Balamban.
Catching My Breath in Balamban

Located in the northwest area of Cebu, Balamban is an absolute breath of fresh air. Compared to the chaotic traffic of Cebu City, it has a laid-back, highly livable vibe.

I took a stroll along the coastline and grabbed lunch at a local sari-sari store right by the sea. Sitting there, shooting the breeze with the locals, I felt a deep sense of peace.

My body is absolutely wrecked, so I made the executive decision to check into a hotel and rest up for the next two days.
Fresh Eyes and New Perspectives

After resting a bit, I went out to explore the town, and something struck me. I've already seen plenty of local markets back in Cebu City, yet seeing a market here in Balamban felt completely brand new. It's funny how just changing your zip code can rewire your brain, making the mundane feel exciting and fresh again.
I'll use this downtime to recharge, organize my gear, and prep for the next leg of the journey toward Toledo.
