A Smooth Ride from Tenom
July 27th. Time to say goodbye to Tenom and head to Keningau!
I lucked out big time—an acquaintance offered to give me a lift. I happily took them up on it, and the drive took only about 30 minutes. Honestly, it was a total lifesaver!
Upon arriving, I quickly realized Keningau is a pretty sizable town. Grabbed some breakfast to fuel up for the day.
Killing Time & Endless Gratitude
I didn't have a strict itinerary today, so I spent the morning setting up some of my travel gear and just taking it easy.
By the way, the person who drove me works at a place called "TMC."
I can't express enough how grateful I am for their help. It's spontaneous kindness like this that makes traveling so rewarding.
Around 2:00 PM, my hotel finally opened for check-in. I dropped my bags off and hit the streets to explore.
The Ultimate Local Market Experience
Keningau is surprisingly spacious and has such a great, laid-back vibe.
Once I reached the main market area, I took a moment to snap some photos with my Global WiFi gear. Huge shoutout to them for being my one and only sponsor and keeping me connected on this trip!
Stepping inside the market, my jaw literally dropped. The sheer volume of food! It's probably the most diverse food market I've seen on this journey so far.
It reminded me a lot of a "Carinderia" in the Philippines—rows upon rows of individual dishes ready to be devoured. There were so many open stalls, and the energy was just electric.
Fish Balls & Friendly Faces
Wandering around, I spotted my absolute favorites: fish cakes and fish balls. Obviously, I had to grab some. Actually, I ended up buying a whole bunch of stuff.
The stall owners were incredibly friendly. I got to chat with them, share some laughs, and even took some photos together.
Honestly, I initially thought Keningau would just be a quick transit stop. But the warmth of the locals proved me wrong. It's so easy to connect with people here.
It turned out to be the most relaxing, heartwarming one-day stay. Let's see what tomorrow brings!
