Growing Familiar with the City

By the third day in Adelaide, I had begun to feel more at ease with the city’s rhythm.
Today, I decided it would be a day of exploring places that people had recommended to me—famous landmarks, the library, and the sea.
It wasn’t just sightseeing. It felt more like gathering “scenes to share with someone I care about.”
A Landscape for My Grandfather

The tram clattered past, its sound echoing through the street. I raised my camera and pressed the shutter.
In Japan, trams like this aren’t so common. For my grandfather, this would be something fresh, something worth sketching.
This journey isn’t mine alone. My grandfather paints, and I take photos to send to him. If those photos fill his canvas and give him energy for his days, then nothing could make me happier.
The Road to the Sea

Leaving the city, I found a bicycle path leading directly to the ocean. It stretched smoothly for kilometers, as if guiding me forward.
At the end, 10 kilometers away, the sea appeared beneath a cloudy sky.
It wasn’t a bright blue day, yet the view was still beautiful. The sea, no matter the weather, always has a way of calming the heart.
Streets Like a Storybook

On my way back, I stumbled upon rows of small, colorful houses.
They looked as if they had stepped out of a storybook.
I stopped pedaling just to take it in. Traveling often gives you these moments—where you simply want to pause, breathe, and look.
One of the World’s Most Beautiful Libraries

Later, I visited the library—said to be one of the most beautiful in the world.
Inside, the quiet was almost sacred. Shelves of books lined the space, and the air carried the faint scent of paper and time.
It felt as though the noise of the outside world had been shut out completely, leaving only stillness.
Searching for a Place
Eight hours passed before I realized it. I had walked, observed, photographed, and absorbed everything I could.
Why had I moved so much today? Perhaps it was because I would soon need to continue my journey. Perhaps it was because the host’s house where I was staying didn’t feel entirely comfortable.
Either way, I had gone outside to escape that feeling.
And in the end, it was the right choice. The places and moments I encountered today gave me strength to keep moving forward.
