A Call Toward the Sea

It was my fifth day in Adelaide.
“Is there anywhere you’d like to go?” my host asked.
Without hesitation, I answered, “Somewhere along the coast, or a place I haven’t seen yet.”
He smiled. “Then I’ll take you to a special place.”
Those words alone made me feel lighter, as if the day ahead held something waiting just for me.
The Trail and Its Opening View
We drove for a while before stepping out of the car and starting to walk.
For thirty minutes we climbed a gentle trail, the scent of the sea slowly mingling with the wind.
And then, suddenly, the view opened. Before me stretched the wide blue of the ocean, the coastline, and the town in one sweeping panorama.
At that moment, something inside me felt unburdened. The fatigue of travel and the worries of the past few days loosened, replaced by the calm rhythm of the sea.
The Earth’s Record Written in Stone

But it was not only the ocean that left me breathless.
Towering ahead was a massive rock wall, layered with bold, visible strata. Each band of color told a different chapter of the Earth’s history, like an open book written across time.
Some rocks were split vertically, as if by force, and the sunlight slipped into the cracks, painting red and gray in shifting tones.
I stood silently, watching the contrast, realizing something I had often forgotten: photographs never capture reality. To see it with my own eyes was something entirely different.
The Comfort of Fish and Chips

In the evening, back at the house, my host surprised me with dinner.
On the table sat a plate of fish and chips. The batter was crisp, the potatoes soft and warm. Simple food, but every bite carried a weight of care.
What touched me most was not only the flavor, but the fact that it had been prepared for me. Along my journey, I have received countless acts of kindness. But those that arrive when you are most in need remain etched into your heart forever.
Kindness That Changes the Scenery
The geological layers I saw today were magnificent, but their beauty shone even brighter because of the kindness surrounding me.
Both the rock’s memory and the taste of fish and chips are now inseparable in my mind.
Kindness makes landscapes more beautiful. It turns simple meals into memories, and new places into something unforgettable.
