During his world cycling journey, Hiro reflected on his choice of work in Australia. Over six months, he received around fifteen introductions to farm jobs, but turned them all down and chose the harder path of construction in Newcastle. His reason was simple: he knew he couldn’t stay motivated if the only goal was money or a visa extension.
Construction is physically demanding, requires English, and involves costly certifications. Yet Hiro sees these challenges as opportunities for growth. For him, it’s the same spirit of adventure as traveling by bike—taking on something uncertain, not knowing if success is possible.
