A Relaxing Day Before the Voyage
August 17th was a very simple and easygoing day. I am currently staying in a port town. I have a ferry to catch on August 18th that will take me to an island called Ambon. Since I had one full day left before departure, I decided to take it easy and explore the area.
I found a place serving a breakfast dish made with fish that resembled "tarako" (fish roe). It was incredibly spicy, but it tasted amazing!

Independence Day Celebrations & Scenic Room Views
While walking around after my meal, I heard some loud noises coming from near the mayor's residence or city hall. I wondered what was going on, and then I realized that today (August 17th) is Indonesia's Independence Day! They were holding some sort of celebratory event, almost like a parade.
Afterward, I headed back to my room, which offers an absolutely beautiful view.

I could see gorgeous mountains towering in the distance. About 10 kilometers away stands Mount Klabat, a major mountain in North Sulawesi. Over to my right, I could also spot Mount Tangkoko.
While North Sulawesi doesn't seem to have a ton of active volcanoes, both Mount Klabat and Mount Tangkoko are indeed volcanoes. It was amazing to have a location where I could look out and see both of them right from my room.
Prepping for the Journey to Ambon
Since I'll be on the ferry tomorrow, I spent the rest of the day preparing things to do during the ride.
Since I'll have plenty of free time, I prepared some materials to study the Indonesian language.
I also spent time downloading movies and dramas to watch. Downloading actually takes quite a bit of time!
I am so excited about this ferry trip starting tomorrow. Even though I'm still in Indonesia, traveling to a new island means experiencing a whole new world and seeing a completely different side of the country, which I am really looking forward to!
