In this talk, Hiro reflects on how he approaches his world cycling journey as a series of experiments rather than a checklist of destinations. For him, travel is not about speed or safety, but about curiosity—asking “what happens if I go this way instead of that way?” and being willing to face uncertainty.
He recalls a moment in Thailand when he took an unfamiliar dirt road, unsure whether to turn back. That choice led to an intense encounter with barking dogs and, ultimately, to a family who welcomed him into their home with food and shelter. It became an unforgettable experience—something no guidebook could have planned.
Hiro describes this mindset as riding with “20% visibility”: seeing just enough of the road ahead to keep moving forward, while leaving space for surprise. Too much certainty feels dull; too much darkness is overwhelming. But in the balance of partial uncertainty, adventure and growth unfold.
Through this philosophy, every turn becomes an experiment—sometimes successful, sometimes not, but always alive. Hiro encourages others to embrace this approach not only in travel but also in life: to take the uncertain road, where hidden parts of ourselves may be waiting to be discovered.
