Signs of Recovery and a Beautiful Encounter by the Beach

October 23rd. Greetings from the road once again.
My face probably showed it already—my health was still not in great shape. The fatigue hadn’t lifted, and my throat still ached. I walked into a small pharmacy and asked for something to ease the pain. The pharmacist handed me medicine for chills and sore throat. Price? Only 25 baht. For that little, I felt as though I had bought a lifeline.
Even so, I decided not to stop. The road was waiting.
Strength Returns on the Open Road

There is something special about a straight, open road. Riding forward without turns, without obstacles—it clears the mind. As I pedaled, I noticed something shifting inside me. The chills that had clung to my body like a shadow slowly began to fade.
And with that change, smiles returned to my face. At first, it was awkward, almost forced, but still, I could feel a spark of energy returning. It amazed me how much the body and the heart are connected.
A Chance Meeting with Fellow Travelers

While riding along, I came across a couple traveling by bicycle as well. They were on their way from Singapore back to Switzerland—pedaling across continents together.
Their atmosphere struck me. Calm, warm, and full of life. They radiated the kind of companionship that only comes from sharing the road, the struggles, and the beauty of travel. Watching them, I thought to myself: someday, I want to keep journeying like that—with a partner who shares the same spirit.
After we parted ways, I looked down and laughed. My thighs had turned a much darker color than I remembered. Days under the strong sun had painted my skin, making me look almost like the locals. Each place has its own sunlight, its own strength. And slowly, I was wearing that strength on my skin.
The weather that day couldn’t have been better. Blue sky, bright sun—perfect for cycling.
A Café Stop and a Market Detour

Eventually, I stopped at a café filled with quirky decorations scattered all around. I sipped coffee, rested my legs, and felt grateful to simply sit.
Soon after, my travel companion spotted a market nearby. Of course, we had to go. Traveling abroad without visiting a local market would feel incomplete. Markets are the heartbeat of a place—the colors, the noise, the smells, the people.
We wandered through stalls filled with local produce, snacks, and laughter. Then, as the sun began to set, we set out again, looking for a spot to camp for the night.
An Unexpected Invitation

The plan changed suddenly. The spot we had chosen for camping turned out to be off-limits—camping was not allowed there. So we kept searching. Just then, we saw a man collecting trash by the roadside. As we passed, he looked up and asked:
“Would you like to stay at my home?”
His words felt like a miracle. We accepted with gratitude.
To our surprise, he led us to the very top floor of a condominium. The view was incredible, the space comfortable. That night, instead of rough camping, we had a roof over our heads and a new friend by our side.
Gratitude at the Table

Later that evening, the condo owner’s acquaintance joined us. Together, we shared dinner, talked, and laughed until late. It was one of those nights that remind you why travel is worth it—not for the miles, not for the photos, but for the people.
I silently thanked my companion. Without their curiosity, without their willingness to stop at the market, we never would have met the man who opened his home to us. Their courage and spontaneity had turned the day into something unforgettable.
My health was slowly improving too. The medicine, the food, the laughter—it was all helping. Tomorrow felt full of promise.
Travel is full of surprises, often appearing where you least expect them. But one thing is certain: if you keep moving, if you keep saying yes, the road will give you encounters that no plan could ever create. And so, I reminded myself: whenever something looks interesting, step closer. That’s where life begins.
