Starting the Day with Purpose

I was staying at Usagiya Guesthouse, a cozy place run by a true travel enthusiast. Today's plan was exciting: I wanted to buy a new bicycle and meet a young Japanese traveler who explores the world wearing a traditional happi coat. Moments like these remind me of the greatest value of travel and social media—the chance to meet people from all over the world, including those with bold, imaginative spirits.
The guesthouse serves a hearty breakfast, and I enjoyed it while feeling ready for the day ahead. After finishing, I mounted my current bicycle and headed out to sell it.
Parting with an Old Companion

I decided to sell my road bike because I wanted a more durable bicycle that could withstand long-term travel. I found a small repair shop tucked behind the street and had it appraised. The sale was finalized for about 30,000 yen. It was bittersweet to say goodbye to a companion that had been with me for a year, but I knew this was the right step forward.
With that done, I walked to a nearby bicycle shop called Xedap, known for its affordable options. Inside, I found a variety of bikes, mostly priced around 10 million dong (about 57,000 yen). I chose a sky-blue mountain bike at the front of the store. With the sale of my old bike, the new one effectively cost me only 10,000 yen, which was a big relief for my budget.
Kindness in Unexpected Places

While inspecting my new bicycle, I noticed the front carrier was broken. The shop owner immediately started working on it, sparks flying as he repaired it. I've met many hardworking Vietnamese people, and I admire those who tackle tasks directly and efficiently.
As I watched, he brought me some food. Curious, I asked why. His answer was simple and heartfelt:
"You look hungry, so I brought some from home. It's my mother's special homemade meal—please enjoy."
I was deeply touched. I had only come to buy a bicycle, yet this small act of kindness left a lasting impression. The readiness to help without hesitation, without worrying about whether it's necessary, is something I deeply respect.
Meeting a Kindred Spirit

With the bicycle repaired, I hurried to meet the young traveler. He wasn't wearing his happi coat at the moment, but within five minutes of talking, I could feel the strength and passion in his words. His love for travel was clear, and I felt a strong connection immediately. We then moved to a local BBQ restaurant.
Everything on the menu was in Vietnamese, and the staff didn't speak English. We took a chance and ordered the chef's choice, unsure what would arrive.
Although I didn't know what I was eating, it turned out to be delicious. It reminded me that even when we step into the unknown with a little courage, we often discover wonderful experiences. Of course, sometimes it doesn't turn out as expected, but the attempt itself is always worth it.
Spending these meaningful hours together made me realize how grateful I am to have come this far. "We will meet somewhere in the world again," I thought.
